The Big Picture - Week 15

Next Week

English
This week we looked at how to write an information text including how it is structures and how to use quotes to back up our statements.
Next week, we create our own information texts using dinosaurs as a rewference and create our own newspaper articles.
Math
In Maths we revised and completed two maths tests and reviewed them
Next week, we will look at placing 4-digit numbers on landmarked lines; 0–10 000 and 1000–2000; round 4-digit numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000; mentally add and subtract to/from 4-digit and 3-digit numbers using place-value; count on and back in multiples of 10, 100 and 1000; count on in multiples of 25 and 50; add and subtract multiples of 10 and 100 to/from 4-digit numbers
Humanities
For Humanities, we looked at different types of flying animals that lived in the prehistoric times as well as the habitats that encountered and the threats that they faced.
Next week, we will look at other animals that lived in prehistoric times and how they managed to live with the dinosaurs as well as how they survived the extinction.
Science
This week, we looked at how the muscles in the body work and took videos of ourselves warming up our muscles and exercising.
Next week, we conduct a muscles experiment and look at how to make a fair test and which variables to change in order to answer our question.
Art
In Art, we continued to work on our Dinosaur Dioramas by adding in some of the foreground in 3D.
Next week, we finish our Dinosaur Dioramas by adding in some lifelike realia such as sand and dirt as well as bringing in our own dinosaurs and showing them their new homes.
PSHE
This week, we looked at good study habits and how to have a good test.
Next week we will look at the positives that have happened this term as well as trying to think of ways to make next term better.
Notices and Events
Hopefully our trips will be confirmed by the end of the week so look for the permission and monetary slips to be going home. Please also ensure that your child brings a cap to school to make sure they don't get too hot.

The Big Picture - Week 12

Another week, another truly incredible educational journey. From learning about marine dinosaurs, writing our own stories from imaginary worlds, reading with Early Years students, to investigating who in our class has fractured a bone; it has been fantastic. Y4 Weekly Update: November 16th to November 20th, 2015

Next Week
English
This week we created our own individual stories based on The Legend of the Wawel Dinosaur. We planned our stories with our own settings, characters and  plots. We then displayed our stories as a story map. Come along and see the display.
Next week, we will be starting our unit on informational texts. We will look at how to create the structure of a news article and tie it in with dinosaurs.
Math
In Maths we revised over what the students will need to know for their reviews next week including timestables and other forms of calculation.
In Maths we will have two Maths reviews. The first is on Tuesday and the second on Wednesday.
Humanities
For Humanities, we looked at different flying reptiles including how big they were as well as where they were found. 
Next week, we will look at dinosaurs that lived in the sea and how they managed to survive in prehistoric times.
Science
This week, we looked at the different muscles that we have in our bodies, how they work and how to look after them. We also made a lung from a bottle and looked at how it inflates and deflates.
Next week, we will look closer at xrays and bone fractures with an experiment on muscle tension.
Art
In Art, we started making our own dinosaur dioramas out of a shoebox. We will also look at ways to make the shoebox into a realistic habitat for different dinosaurs.
Next week, we will finish off making our dinosaur dioramas.
PSHE
This week, we looked at what issues are important to bring to the teacher and what issues the students should be able to sort out themselves.
Next week we will look at the positives that have happened to students in our class as well as things that we can do to improve our class
Notices and Events
Please remind students to complete their Abacus homework sent out online. Also, please make sure your money is paid in along with permission slips for our residential.

The Big Picture - Week 11
