Ayutthaya
Last week we went on a fantastic field trip to Ayutthaya. We travelled around the old city in a small sight seeing bus which allowed us to see lots of different places. We visited a huge reclining Buddha as well as a temple where we found a tree that had grown around a Buddha's head. We learnt a lot about the history of the city and even got to go inside one of the buildings to look at a small chamber where treasure was once kept.

Forces
This week we had a very fun Science lesson which involved us using the swimming pool. We were looking at the forces acting on a water bottle to make it float or sink.
We found that the more water we put in the bottle, the lower it sank before floating back to the surface. When the bottle is moving downwards, the pull of gravity is the stronger force, and when it is moving back up to the surface, the push of upthrust is the stronger force.
We found that the bottle only sank when it was completely full with water and no air at all. We also found that if there is just a tiny bit of air in the bottle, the bottle would sit just underneath the surface. We call this neutral buoyancy.

Reading Diaries
In Year 5, the reading diary should be completed every day and some children have been working very hard on this.
Yesterday we looked at the ways that we can write an effective entry in our reading diaries, as well as how we can assess it really well to help our partner to improve. There is an example below:

Clay Tiles
We have made some old fashioned clay tiles this week as part of our topic based on past civilizations. When they are dry we will be able to paint and varnish them.
Drama
Today we had a drama lesson to help us to really learn the story of Icarus. Below you can see pictures of our freeze frames.
