Half term break

Dear parents & children of KS1,

Charity bake sale

Today, as most of you already know, we had our charity bake sale to raise money for soi dogs. Here are a few photos of our time at the bake sale.

Numeracy

This week in Numeracy, we have been looking at money, and learning the different ways to make the same amounts. The children were very excited to be using real money to help with their learning.

Literacy

This week in literacy, we have been learning about instructions, which has tied in very nicely with the charity bake sale. This children read some instructions on how to make chocolate crispy cakes and had a wonderful time following the instructions in the correct order.

Bake Sale 19th October

Next Friday, we will be having a bake sale to raise money which will help a charity that supports soi dogs. More details will come next week but the children in KS1 are likely to try to do some of their own baking.

Big Write

This Friday, we did our very first 'Big write'. This is a new scheme to encourage children to write independently about a topic they have been learning. Year 1 have been writing about their Teddy bears, as they have featured in our week this week.

Numeracy

One of the things we have been learning about in Numeracy this week is 'estimation'. We would look at a group of objects or a photo of animals and estimate how many. When everyone has had a turn we would count and find out who had the closest estimate.

Literacy

This week in Literacy we have been looking at lists, labels and captions. To help us learn about these, we have used the theme 'The teddy bears' picnic'. Have a look at some of the exciting things we have been doing.

Numeracy

This week we have been looking at simple addition and taking away. W e have been using cubes to help us learn about 'taking away'.

Literacy

This week in Literacy we have used adjectives to describe animals at the zoo. There were many 'friendly' kangaroos and 'scary' crocodiles.
