The Big Picture - Week 10
Week 10 was action packed for Y4M. From a dinosaur hunt to digging for fossils, we certainly discovered plenty of new things. Please enjoy some pictures and have a great weekend.

|
This week we started
our new creative writing topic, Stories From Imaginary Worlds with the story,
The Legend of the Warwal Dinosaur. We also went on a dinosaur hunt after
something broke into our class and broke everything!

Next week, we be
changing parts of our feature story to create one set in a different place
with different characters.
|
|
|
Math
|
In Maths we rounded
4-digit numbers to the nearest: 10, 100 and 1000; subtract 3-digit numbers
using the expanded written version and the counting up mental strategy and
decide which to use.
|
In Maths we will Use
the grid method to multiply 3-digit by single-digit numbers and introduce the
vertical algorithm; begin to estimate products; divide numbers (up to 2
digits) by single-digit numbers with no remainder, then with a remainder.
|
|
|
Humanities
|
For Humanities, we looked
at the large sauropod dinosaurs and how they lived as well as how they were
able to survive in the harsh environment. .
|
Next week, we will look
at flying reptiles including how big they were as well as where they were
found.
|
|
|
Science
|
This week, we looked
at the skeletons of different animals and recognize similarities and
differences between their skeletons and our own.

Next week, we will at
identifying parts of the human skeleton
and create ouyr own human skeleton using ourselves!

Art
|
In Art, we looked at
putting together our own dinosaur skeleton using a jigsaw method.
|
Next week, we will start
making our own dinosaur dioramas.

PSHE
|
This week, we looked
at what issues are important to bring to the teacher and what issues the
students should be able to sort out themselves.

Next week we will
look at the positives that have happened to students in our class as well as
things that we can do to improve our class

The Big Picture - Week 9
After a relaxing holiday, Y4M has been very busy getting back to work. From writing our recounts of our half term vacation, new units in Science and Humanities, and preparing for Halloween; it's been a fantastic week! Enjoy the pictures and have a great day.

Y4 Weekly Update: August 12th to August 16th, 2015

This week we looked at how to structure our recounts in the form of an introduction, a body and a conclusion as well as writing adverbs of order and using reported speech.
|
Next week, we look at how to write our own personal recount of what we did in the holidays.
|
Math
|
In Maths we looked at place value in decimals and the relationship between tenths and decimals; add two 4-digit numbers; practise written and mental addition methods; use vertical addition to investigate patterns.
|
In Maths we will convert multiples of 100 g into kilograms; convert multiples of 100 ml into litres; read scales to the nearest 100 ml; estimate capacities; draw bar charts, record and interpret information.
|
Humanities
|
For Humanities, we looked at South America as a continent and the Amazon. We will look at the different animals that live there and why they are dangerous and unusual.
|
Next week, we will start our new topic 'Dinosaurs' and look at how dinosaurs first came about.
|
Science
|
This week, we looked at conducting an investigation on how birds adapt to eating foods with their different beaks. We took different tools to use as beaks and saw which type of food they worked best with.

Next week, we will start on our new topic, Skeletons and Body.
|
Art
|
In Art, we created and decorated our class stalls for the upcoming Charity Day. We made a Human Fruit Machine which should be a lot of fun.

Next week, we will look at putting together a massive dinosaur jigsaw puzzle.
|
PSHE
|
This week, we looked at what issues are important to bring to the teacher and what issues the students should be able to sort out themselves.

This week we looked at how to write a recount as well as take a fictional day trip around North America. We aslo looked at how to structure a recount and use powerful verbs to better our writing.

Next week, we look at how to structure our recounts in the form of an introduction, a body and a conclusion as well as writing adverbs of order and using reported speech.

|
In Maths we looked at doubling 3-digit numbers and halving even 3-digit numbers; revising unit fractions; identifying equivalent fractions; reducing a fraction to its simplest form; counting in fractions (each fraction in its simplest form)
|

Humanities
|
For Humanities, we looked at Asia and its Habitats and animals. We also looked at interesting things that make up Asian culture such as its foods and history.

This week, we looked at how to classify minibeasts into different categories as well as make keys that can identify each minibeast through a series of questions.

Next week, we will look at conducting an investigation on how birds adapt to eating foods with their different beaks.

In Art, we will look at creating our own silhouette animals for our wall display showcasing our stories that we wrote in literacy based on Awongaleema.

Next week, we will create and decorate our class stalls for the upcoming Charity Day.

PSHE

This week, along with the positives of the class, we looked at completing our homework for other non core subjects as well as interesting places we can go for our field trips and residentials.

Next week we will look at the positives that have happened to students in our class as well as things that we can do to improve our class.
