Y4 Weekly Update: March 14th to 18th, 2016

English
This week, we will work our props and costumes into our plays as well as make contingencies for any problems that occur.
Next week, we be working on contingencies and putting the finishing touches on our plays ready for the big performance. 
Math
Tell the time on a 24 hour clock, using am and pm correctly; convert pm times to 24 hour clock and vice versa; use 24 hour clock in calculating intervals of time; measure and calculate perimeters of rectilinear shapes where each side is labelled in cm and m; find missing lengths in rectilinear composite shapes; find the perimeters of rectilinear shapes with some lengths not marked; convert from one unit of length to another; solve word problems involving lengths including those involving perimeters
Understand place value in 4-digit numbers; partition 4-digit numbers; solve subtraction of 4-digit numbers using column subtraction (decomposition); choose an appropriate method to solve subtractions, either mental or written, and either column or counting up (Frog)
Humanities
For Humanities, we will look at how volcanoes happen and how to survive them as well as our weekly case study.
Next week, we will study tsunamis, how they occur as well as how to avoid them.
Science
This week we will add new items to our circuits including switches and motors.
Next week, we will look at electricity safety and how to make our own houses safe with regards to dos and do nots. 
Art
This week, we will finish making our props and make sure they are ready for the production.
Next week, we will evaluate our costumes and props for our plays and make sure everything is ready for the production.
PSHE
In PSHE, we will at changing around some of our class jobs and making our classroom cleaner and more effective.
Next week, we will look at the positives that have happened this term as well as trying to think of ways to make next term better.

This week, we will start preparing our props and costumes. We will also adopt different acting methods and how to use the stage more in our acting.
Next week, we will work our props and costumes into our plays as well as make contingencies for any problems that occur.
Math
Multiply decimal numbers by 10 to get 2-digit numbers; divide 3-digit multiples of ten by 100 to get decimal numbers; multiply decimal numbers by 100 to get 3-digit multiples of ten; add four digit numbers using written method with answers greater than 10 000
Add amounts of money using written methods and mentally using place value and number facts; choose to add using the appropriate strategy: mental or written; subtract, choosing appropriate mental strategies: counting up or taking away (using counting back, place value or number facts); solve subtractions using a suitable written method (column subtraction)
Humanities
For Humanities, we will move onto earthquakes, again with a case study of one of the worst earthquakes in History.

This week, we will start on our unit Dramatic Conventions and start planning for our KS2 production by looking at different Horrible Histories plays. 
Next week, we will start preparing our props and costumes. We will also adopt different acting methods and how to use the stage more in our acting.
