Y4 Weekly Update: March 7th to 11th, 2016

English	This week, we will start preparing our props and costumes. We will also adopt different acting methods and how to use the stage more in our acting.	Next week, we will work our props and costumes into our plays as well as make contingencies for any problems that occur.
Math	Multiply decimal numbers by 10 to get 2-digit numbers; divide 3-digit multiples of ten by 100 to get decimal numbers; multiply decimal numbers by 100 to get 3-digit multiples of ten; add four digit numbers using written method with answers greater than 10 000	Add amounts of money using written methods and mentally using place value and number facts; choose to add using the appropriate strategy: mental or written; subtract, choosing appropriate mental strategies: counting up or taking away (using counting back, place value or number facts); solve subtractions using a suitable written method (column subtraction)
Humanities	For Humanities, we will move onto earthquakes, again with a case study of one of the worst earthquakes in History.	Next week, we will look at how volcanoes happen and how to survive them as well as our weekly case study.
Science	This week we will look at how to make different types of circuits and other materials that conduct and don't conduct electricity	Next week, we will add new items to our circuits including switches and motors.
Art	This week, we will look fine tuning our motor skills by creating props for our KS2 production.	Next week, we will finish making our props and make sure they are ready for the production.
PSHE	In PSHE, we will at changing around some of our class jobs and making our classroom cleaner and more effective.	Next term, we will look at the positives that have happened this term as well as trying to think of ways to make next term better.

English	This week, we will start on our unit Dramatic Conventions and start planning for our KS2 production by looking at different Horrible Histories plays.	Next week, we will start preparing our props and costumes. We will also adopt different acting methods and how to use the stage more in our acting.
Math	Recognise, use, compare and order decimal numbers; understand place value in decimal numbers; recognise that decimals are tenths; round decimals numbers to the nearest whole number; divide 2-digit numbers by 10 to get decimal numbers. Next term, we will start our new unit on circuits and conductors and will begin by identifying important vocabulary which will help us to learn about electricity.
Art	This week, we will look at how we could have made improvement on our inventions.	Next term, we will look fine tuning our motor skills by creating props for our KS2 production.

Next week, we will chunk up the parts of our novel into manageable sections and create a story mountain as well as ‘boxing up’.
Math	Recognise and compare acute, right and obtuse angles; draw lines of a given length; identify perpendicular and parallel lines; recognise and draw line symmetry in shapes; sort 2D shapes according to their properties; draw shapes with given properties and explain reasoning; draw the other half of symmetrical shapes	Understand how to divide 2-digit and 3-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers using place value and mental strategies; divide numbers by 1-digit numbers to give answers between 10 and 25, with remainders; identify factor pairs and use these to solve multiplications and divisions with larger numbers; use Frog to find complements to multiples of 1000; use Frog to find change from £10, £20 and £50
