Halloween

Today, the children came into school wearing the most fantastic Halloween outfits! Miss Campbell and Kru Bee were a little spooked by all of the zombies, witches, pirates and ghosts who were now lurking around their classroom.

All of the children made a fantastic effort and had a wonderful day learning about the history of Halloween and taking part in Halloween based activities.
As part of our spooky lessons, in Science we decided to investigate how the drop height of blood affects the size of the splatter? CREEEEEPPPYYYY.....

We found that the higher, the blood was dropped from, the larger the splat it made.

Congratulations Kaopun

A huge congratulations to Kaopun who has been working particularly hard during his Literacy lessons over this half-term. Mr Seymour, was so impressed with Kaopun's writing that he decided to reward him the 'Writer of the Month' award. Keep up the excellent work Kaopun, we are all very proud of you!

I wonder who will be Writer of the Month in November?

Cool Coordinates...

Over the past week, Miss Campbell's Numeracy group have been learning to plot coordinates. At first. we plotted on a single quadrant but by the end of the week, we were able to plot on all 4 quadrants with no trouble whatsoever! This was our first introduction to negative numbers so they children did extremely well.

We enjoyed reading coordinates on a map and also making our own treasure maps. Once we had finished, we used these to question our talk partners about the whereabouts of different locations.

Miss Campbell provided us with some coordinates to follow too. At first, we didn't know what would happen when we joined up each point but it soon became apparent that we were forming some spooky Halloween pictures!

Well done Miss Campbell's Maths group, you have plotted some super pictures!

How to Make a Snakes and Ladders Board Game

During our most recent Literacy lessons, we have been learning how to write instructions. First, we analyzed instructional texts. We looked at the key features and decided which ones we thought were well written and why. Then, we look at which ones could have been improved.

Next, we had a go at following instructions ourselves. Miss Campbell gave us a set that she had written which explained how to make the perfect Snakes and Ladders board game, it was lots of fun! After we had finished, we checked each other’s work to ensure that our friends had followed the instructions carefully. Luckily, most people had!

Eventually, it was time for us to write instructions to our games, these were all very clear.

Finally, we were allowed to play our games, we enjoyed this part very much!

We will be bringing our games home so that we can play with our families too!

Spooky Photo Editing

Dear Parents,

I am very sorry to let you know that during our Literacy lesson today, something went terribly wrong! We were writing instructions about how to make a potion when suddenly, there was an explosion. Before we knew it, the entire class had turned into dark, spooky, creepy creatures. Kru Bee was the only person who was not affected by the potion, she was petrified!!!

Thankfully, at 2pm we had a Science lesson where the children were able to concoct potions to return to their natural selves, phew! Miss Campbell was worried she may have a few upset parents on her hands.

Happy Holidays

Digital Footprints

This week, Y3C have been learning about e-safety, staying safe on the internet, and our digital footprints.
We began by discussing all the things we LOVE about being online:
Using social media websites to communicate with our friends
Watching YouTube videos which teach us football tricks
Playing games on sites like BBC Bitesize
Searching for information on our topics
Photo Editing
Listening to stories on Storyline Online
and not to forget our beloved 3C class blog...

Although the internet is great for so many reasons, it’s important to recognise that, just as we learn to play safely outside, so we must also learn to play safely on-line.  So, how can we stay safe?

After designing our SMART posters, we acted out scenes about cyber bullying. The children thought very hard about this and all of our role-plays had excellent solutions...

Kaopun's impression of a terminated virus was Oscar worthy!
What is a digital footprint?
On the internet a digital footprint describes the trail of "footprints" that we leave online. This is information such as e-mails, social networking, uploading videos or images and any other form of transmission of information — all of which leaves traces of personal information about us available to others - Make sure you makes yours a positive one!
