Stretchy Materials

This morning, we have been investigating the stretchiness of different materials. Some clothes such as leggings are best made from stretchy materials. Imagine if tights did not stretch and had to be made the exact size and shape of your legs! Today, the Year 3 pupils helped Miss Campbell to decide which tights to buy. She wanted them to be nice and stretchy so that they wouldn't restrain her movement. Here is how we investigated the matter...

1. First, we discussed what we were testing.

2. Then, we examined three different pairs of tights and made predictions about which would be the stretchiest and why.
3. Next, we talked about how we would carry out the test and wrote down our methods.
4. We decided to measure the tights before and after they were stretched. We stretched the tights by dropping weights into the leg.
5. We made the test fair by dropping the same weight from the same height each time.
6. Our conclusion was that Sheer Support tights were the stretchiest!

Great work 3C, thank you for your help!
