During this week’s art lesson, we created lanterns for Diwali. Diwali is one of India's biggest and most important festivals
of the year. The festival gets its name from the row (avali) of clay lamps (or deepa) that
Indian people light outside their homes to symbolize a light that protects us
from darkness.
Indians celebrate Diwali with family parties, glittering
lanterns, colourful fireworks, rows of electric lights, bonfires, exotic
flowers, sharing of food, and worship to the Godess Lakshmi. Many people believe
that Lakshmi wanders Earth looking for open doors and windows with lights in to
welcome her.
The children all worked incredibly hard and have created some magnificent lanterns which I’m sure Lakshmi would love.
With such beautiful lanterns, I’m positive that our classroom will definitely receive a visit!
