Mystery Skype

Today, our pupils have been extremely busy meeting other Year 3 children from all over the world. At 9.15am, we took part in our first 'Mystery Skype'. This is a game played by two classrooms on Skype. The aim of the game is to guess the location of the other class by asking each other questions. First, we got out our world map, clipboards, paper, pens and cameras. Next, we discussed how we were going to collect information. Each child was given a sheet with the questions we were planning to ask. We waited excitedly for the Skype call to come through...

Our first 'Mystery Skype' came through at 9.15am from Ms MacLean's class and our second call took place at 11.00am with Mr Fellowes class. Both classes introduced themselves and we discussed how the call would be conducted – we were very impressed by their professionalism and organisation of questions.

We found that it was sometimes difficult to hear as our Skype connection was a little bit faulty at times and we got some background noise through! In the end, we were able to work out that Miss MacLean's class came from Singapore and Mr Fellowes class came from Australia. They both also guessed that we were Skyping from Thailand.
We loved the experience and are looking forward to doing it again… the class suggested coming to school extra early so that we could Skype a country in a completely different time zone next time!
